Within the constraints of a 36” x 36” canvas, Henry creates the feeling of continuity. There is a depth and vibrancy of color that makes the canvas seem bigger than it actually is. Though the painting seems simplistic, the longer you look, the more you unravel. There are layers upon layers with the red superimposed over the blue and likewise with the yellow over the orange. The longer you look, the more hidden colors you find. Please also notice how the brush strokes are all even, unidirectional, and parallel thereby generating a feeling of progression and flow.
